Warm the Children
The Old Saybrook Rotary Club took this program over from Mack Stewart, the founder of Warm the Children. We are proud to partner with the Pictorial Gazette to bring warm clothing to needy children of the shoreline area. The Warm the Children club coordinators are Walter Osborne and Jason Smith. The program is entirely funded through contributions by generous shoreline residents and 100% of the contributions are used to purchase winter clothing. The need is great in the Valley Shore - children will go cold this winter without your help. A list of the towns and contact information is provided below.
Just what is Warm the Children Fund? The Warm the Children Fund is neighbors helping neighbors and has been in existence for over 15 years. The Pictorial Gazette and Old Saybrook Rotary Foundation are asking readers to donate to the fund, and the proceeds will be used to buy new winter clothing for area children in need. There are no administrative fees; all the money donated is used to buy warm winter clothing.
How will the children in need be identified? Social services agencies will identify children and work with Warm the Children coordinators Walt Osborne and Jason Smith of the Rotary Club.
How will the children's clothing be purchased? The Warm the Children coordinators will make arrangements with Wal-Mart in Old Saybrook, work with the social service agencies and assign volunteer shoppers to take the families shipping for their winter clothing. Shoppers will be local residents who want to help out by donating a little of their time for this worthwhile cause.
