D.A.R.E Program We had the pleasure of meeting 10 of the winning essayists of the DARE program and family members at this mornings meeting. Officer Michael Spera talked about the program and the importance of the club's support, then turned it over to Officer Sam Barnes, the Middle School DARE instructor. Sam instructs the kids on the importance of making good decisions and consequences that could result from bad ones. Dealing with peer pressure and being a good citizen are important aspects to the program - its not just about drugs and alcohol abuse. The program is given during the school day, is for 5th graders and there are 10 lessons at 1 hour each. At the end of the program, the kids are asked to write an essay and despite the difficulty, 10 are selected for merit. The 10 students in attendance read a portion of their essay.
