Program/Scholarship Awards: Ron Scott There were 26 applicants for the 5 Scholarship Committee members to select from to narrow the field to 3 - 4 year scholarships and 3 - 2 year scholarships. A daunting task with the caliber of applicants we get. Much credit should be given to the committee for their hard work and dedication! Ron mentioned all applicants are personally interviewed and that if selected must submit end of semester transcripts to the club to ensure they are meeting the required 3.0 GPA needed to sustain the scholarship funds. Parents were also requested to check with the college's financial office to ensure the scholarship moneys are being credited. Ed Pinn announced and presented the awards for the Old Lyme School District. They are: Stella Deng - a 2 year scholarship. She will be attending Pomona College. Rebecca Baehr - a 4 year scholarship. She will be attnding Bernard College as a music major. Shirley Von Dassell announced the Old Saybrook recipients who are: Jordan King - a 2 year scholarship. He will be attending George Washington University majoring in Political Science. Cheni Lama - a 4 year scholarship. She will be attending Boston University majoring in International Business. Stan Niemerski announced the Westbrook recients who are: Jason Cane - a 2 year scholarship. He will be attending the University of South Carolina majoring in Clinical Phychology and hopes to continue in graduate work. Patrick Loftus - a 4 year scholarship. He will be attending Northeastern University majoring in Mechanical Engineering.
(A note from your editor) The accomplishments of these young people were too numerous for your editor to keep up with and publish here. It would also have added several pages to the Shadder. Suffice it to say they are all highly motivated, academically superb and involved in all sorts of school and civic activities. We are proud of them all!
