President's Announcements:
Reminded club of the Paul Harris Sustaining Member program where $100 / year for 10
years donated to the Rotary Foundation allows you to name a Paul Harris Fellow
(yourself or anyone you designate).
The O.S. Interact Club is working on a shed for a Habitat for Humanity home in our
club's territory. They are asking us for a $1500 up front loan for materials until their
fundraisers can earn the rest. The club seemed supportive of this and the Board will
decide. We also received a letter from Eric Lunde, a long time member now living in
Florida, things are going well.
Treasurer's Report: Reported net proceeds from the Wine Tasting of $8,044, many
thanks to the committee! The Foundation fund was in excesss of $500K, up from it's
low last summer of $372K. Bob Hester also indicates that the details of the fund and
it's investments at Essex Financial Services are available to any club member.
Matt Vogt announced that the O.S. Chili Cookout will be held on February 27th from
12 noon till 3 PM. We'll be partnering with JAMSS's. He'll have signup sheets at the
next few meeting for members to sign up to man the booth.
Program: Joan Camire introduced Nancy Elliot, our speaker today talking about the
2010 Census. Nancy indicated that the census is very important to determine not
only population, but locatioon for potential redistricting and distribution of federal funds
to these entities. The census officially starts April 1st (although much has been done
beforehand). Everyone should be receiving a mailing to complete and mail back.
Those addresses identified that haven't responded will be called on by census takers.
Census takers are needed for the 5-10 week period after mailings are tabulated.
To qualify for a census taker you must be 18 years of age or older (no problem), with
a valid drivers license. The pay rate is $17/hr. for training and actual work. Milage is
also paid at $0.50/ mile. To qualify and apply you must take an 1 hour test. You can
call the 'Census Jobs Hot Line' at 1-866-861-2010 for the location and time and
location of the next test.
