Program: College and Career Readiness
Superintendent of Schools, Jan Perruccio, introduced OSHS faculty members Carina Using and Sarah Fawcett. They are the driving force behind a new program at Old Saybrook High School this year. The College and Career Readiness program has one goal: By 2021, 100% of OSHS students will have participated in authentic career exploration opportunities and experiences. In order to attain this goal students will have the opportunity to enroll in new classes: English in Action, Global Citizenship, and Civics Seminar. Students will be exposed to a variety of guest speakers and be able to participate in job shadowing and/or internships. A new computer software program, Naviance, will aide students throughout the program. A discussion period followed the presentation. Topics included questions about the program, detailed examples of internships, and a plea from the teachers to get more businesses and professionals involved as mentors in this worthwhile program. Marty announced that sponsors, donations, and tickets for the wine tasting event should be turned in no later than 2/5/18 which is the printing deadline for the Wine Tasting program books.
John Giannini distributed Thank You Cards that should be sent to contributors and sponsors of the wine tasting event.
