In a Heart Beat is a nonprofit started by Mike's family. Mike was an athlete. He played basketball at the college level. He was working at his father's basketball camp when suddenly he was stricken with cardiac arrest. There was no defibrillator available and no assistance. They called 911 CPR was given keeping Mike alive until a defribrillator was administered which got his heart going again. Mike was diagnosed with HCM - hypertrophic cardiomyopathy. There were no prior symptoms.

Mike has stepped down from coaching and now runs the foundation full time. There are 3 programs:

  • AED (Automatic Electronic Defibrillator) Program: Buy and donate AEDs, provide training, educate on first action plans.
  • HCM research which includes genetic testing and reseach programs.
  • Support programs for victims whose lives have changed
