OS Rotary Meeting 04/10/20

Pledge:     Gary McCauley
Prayer:     Gary McCauley

This was our first ZOOM Meeting. Time was spent learning the ins and outs of this new technology and how to remotely conduct a meeting.

Happy Bucks: members will keep track of their weekly Happy Bucks and contribute the money at our next in-person meeting. Schools and businesses, due to COVID 19, are closed until at least 5/20/20. It looks like the next in-person meeting will be, at the earliest, on 5/22/20. COVID 19 weighs heavily on everyone’s mind and the Happy Bucks reflect that concern. Members were happy to “see” and talk to each other, learn that all members present and their families are, so far, healthy. Members are thankful for the medical community and first responders. Happy that some restaurants are open for take-out: including Saybrook Point Inn and Luigi’s.

The Raffle and Card Game will resume when the in-person meetings resume.

President’s Update: Gary McCauley

OS Rotary has a one year subscription to ZOOM. This online meeting App allows up to 100 people to attend our remote meetings and there is no time restriction on the length of the meeting.

OS Rotary has contributed $500.00 to the Chamber of Commerce to continue running their Great Take Out Giveaway daily drawing. It has been extended into May.

There are two District Grant opportunities concerning the COVID-19 Outbreak. One is for Emergency Food Pantry Support and the other is for a Community Disaster Response. A committee comprised of Bill McLaughlin, Bill O’Shaughnessy, Pat Settembrino, and Pat Devito, will investigate these grant opportunities and recommend a course of action.

The May Golf Tournament has been cancelled.

Next Generations Committee: Jan Perruccio

OS Rotary Scholarships will be awarded in June. There will not be a reception this year. The Student of the Month program will be suspended but plans are being made to recognize the students. Schools are proceeding with the distant learning format. Meals are being provided to all students requesting them. To date, over 13,000 meals have been prepared and picked up. The DARE Program will continue with the 6th grade participating in the Fall and the 5th grade participating in the following Spring.

The next meeting will be April 15th at 10:00am.  Be ready to ZOOM !!!
