PROGRAM

Westbrook First Selectman Noel Bishop and Westbrook Social Services Director Elizabeth Carpenter spoke to “The Club”.

Elizabeth Carpenter spoke about the needs of many in Westbrook. The challenge is large and then thanked The Rotary Club of Old Saybrook for its work to help the situation. “The Club”, has partnered with The Westbrook Foundation to supply 50 or so Thanksgivings Day meals for the folks in Westbrook. Ed’s Place in Westbrook will prepare the meals and they will be delivered, in tote bags, to the Westbrook Town Hall Wednesday before Thanksgiving. Elizabeth will coordinate the delivery of the meals. Next Wed the event will be covered by The Westbrook Events magazine.

Selectman Noel Bishop discussed the need fir regional cooperation between the shore line towns. Westbrook is building sidewalks that will connect Old Saybrook with Clinton.  Westbrook is working on the town jetties to keep things in repair. The times require a conservative budget and careful planning. Noel thanked The Rotary Club of Old Saybrook for their support. We all look forward to working on future projects.  

PRESIDENT’S UPDATE

1. Remember 11/21/2020 is the last day for Turkey Drive money, our Happery Bucks Dollars. Liberty Bank matching $0.25 per $1.00. Dollars going to “Meals on Wheel”.

2.  Old Saybrook Task Force continues its work

3. Dictionaries are all delivered to the third-grade students.  Good job Charlie Norz.

4. Bill O’Saughnessy reported that District 7908 has selected a candidate for District Governor Rotary year 2023-2024, Christine Freedman, The Rotary Club of Wilton.

5. Old Saybrook Chamber of Commerce hosting a restaurant raffle 42; local restaurants involved, raffle tickets available $20.00. Check the Chamber web page for additional information.

6. Nine Town Transit ridership back to pre-COVID-19 levels. Finances are scarce, considering merging with Middletown Transit.

FUND RAISING

1.)  Charlie Renshaw reported on the Golf Tourney.

A.   Will need 72 golfers to close the course for the day.

B.   Sponsors are the real source of income

C.  Will get contract from The Hopyard shortly
