Declarations of Rotarians in Business and Professions

As a Rotarian engaged in a Business or Profession, I am expected to:

11. Consider my vocation to be another opportunity to SERVE.

22. Be faithful to the letter and the spirit of the ethical codes of my vocation, to the laws of my country, and to the moral standard of my community.

33. Offer my vocational talents; to provide opportunities for young people, to work for the relief of the special needs of others, and to improve the quality of life in my community.

44. Adhere to honesty in my advertising and in all representations to the public concerning my business or profession.

5.)Neither seek from nor grant to a fellow Rotarian a privilege of advantage not normally accorded others in a business or professional relationship.

THE FOUR WAY TEST of the things we think, say, or do:

  1) Is it the TRUTH?

SPECIAL PROJECT

Old Saybrook Transfer Station Project.  Pat Settembrinno and Pat DeVito presented the plans.  Name for the new building suggested, “Rotary Old Saybrook COMMODITIES EXCHANGE”.

Pat Settembrino came up with the idea after visiting the transfer station in Orleans MA Let’s have a building at the Old Saybrook Transfer Station to house useful items being thrown away. Pat S, Pat D, and Gary worked with First Selectman Carl Fortuna and Public Works Superintendent Larry Bonin and all agreed this is a good idea. Town folks drew plans for the shed. The structure is a 22’ wide by 8’ deep, closed back, and roofed.

Pat DeVito is working with The Middlesex Community Foundation for a grant of $3,000.00 toward the cost of $8,000.00 for the shed. Selling points in the Grant request are: environment improvement, (clean up the area), economic, (positive exchange of used goods to those in need), safety, (keep used items in one place and out of the way), and general good will, “Rotary Service Above Self”

President Gary met with Beard Lumber and thy agreed to provide materials at cost.

A vote was taken to proceed with the Project.

Good Community Outreach.
