Announcements:
ADG Jack Solomon presented a check from the Deep River club for the new freezer for the Estuary. Our club, led by Bill McLaughlin, obtained funding for a new freezer to replace the old one which needed extensive repairs. 5 local clubs and matching grant from district helped with the $5,000+ cost. The freezer is installed and running. There will be a write-up in the local media.
Keith: A contribution to Warm the Children was made by Westbrook High School in honor of Prin. Bob Hale.
Keith talked about the solicitation letter he drafted targeting corporations who need notice in order to allocate contributions for our fundraisers (Wine Tasting, Golf Tournament). Its available on our website if anyone wishes to access it for solicitation purposes.
Marty and Gerri talked about the Wine Tasting slated for Friday, Feb. 8. Marty distributed tickets to everyone in attendance as well as posters. The time is now to sell tickets and ask merchants for contributions. Everyone was given 6 tickets to sell and Keith mentioned that we do not want any tickets returned. If you don't sell 'em, buy 'em and give 'em away! Success is contingent on full club participation before and during the event so let's go!
Jack Solomon talked about a project his club does called "Invention Convention". Its for 5th graders and who are charged with inventing something. Rotarians are the judges. This has been very successful. Last year a student invented a device which measures the thickness of ice. She did this out of concern for people who walk on frozen lakes and ponds (including her family members). She just recieved a patent!
