Announcements:
Marty gave a financial report on the Wine Tasting. Despite 2 postponements due to weather (Storm Nemo), we made over $9,000. A more detailed report will be posted in the members' area. Marty passed pictures of the event and presented Gerri with a picture of her and daughter Jessica who was a big help that night. Thanks to all who helped, sold tickets, obtained auction items and made this event successful! It was truly a club effort.
Marty: The Chamber of Commerce Chile contest is March 2nd and asked if anyone was able to take charge. Unfortunately, no one could do so and we will not be participating this year.
Keith showed his latest invention, a colonial style gun that shoots surgical tubing. Keith was asked to design this for a client.

Program: Middle School Principal and member of the campaign committee for the new Shoreline Medical Center, Michael Rafferty introduced our speaker, Laura Martino.
The Essex Clinic was established 40 years ago because the shoreline population was (is) too small to support a hospital and there was a feeling of isolation. We now have a 24/7 facility that provides emergency services, full service lab, diagnostics, physical therapy, sleep studies and more. The Essex facility has been outgrown and the decision was made to move rather than try to expand the existing building. The new location will serve the greatest number of people within a 15 minute drive from Madison to Chester and everything inside that loop. It doubles the current facility size to 40,000 sq ft with the option to expand to 60,000 sq ft if needed with the addition of a 2nd floor.
The following concerns were addressed: Sufficient space around each bed - rooms are bigger; parking and access - the ambulance will have a separate area and people walking in will not be in the same vicinity; helicopter pad; two distinct entrances. The emergency room will have 26 beds (currently only 16). There will be a rapid service, express care area. The ambulance entrance is on the side of the building not the front. There will be no interaction between critical and minor cases for improved patient privacy. There will be a private conference room and an area for EMS management, re-supply, wash up and supply closet. Diagnostic imaging and radiology services will be expanded with a designated women's area for mamography and GYN ultrasound - no males will be here conferring privacy to women patients in need of these services. There will be a 24/7 MRI capability. Other amenities include conference education room, locker room, sterilization area, lab and IV infusion services (blood, antibiotics, no chemo).
The cost is $26 million and a capital campaign is underway. The hope is to avoid bonding. The first $5 million campaign has almost been achieved with $4 million raised to date. There are no plans to sell the current building. It will probably used for office space. The address is Flat Rock Place, Westbrook (Exit 65 off I-95).
