Program:
Gerri introduced our speaker, Eileen Baker. Eileen is a 37 year resident of Old Saybrook and has been on the Board of Education for 24 years. She has 2 daughters. Eileen is proficient in Spanish and is a teacher for the hearing impaired. Eileen has a long resume of working with the deaf on the college level.
Eileen is the president of the Tracy Arts Center
which was started in 1989 to enrich lives through art by artists of all ages. They have partnered with the Old Saybrook Middle School and Youth & Family Services with the "Budding Artist Program" for kids who can't afford tuition programs in art. They use standardized supplies and talk to the kids about their creations. Whats in their mind when they create something? Liberty Bank has been helpful in creating a budget for programs including summer camp. The cost is $220 per child per week and its for ages 5-10. Kids learn from professional artists. The Budding Artist Program has been extended for another 6 weeks thanks to a push from Eileen. There are teenage classes on weekends and Tracy Arts Center does birthday parties! Tracy Arts Center is a 501C3 nonprofit organization.
