Glen Anderson:
Glen was born in 1947 in Mechanicsville, Iowa. His mother gave birth in a car while his father was calling the doctor from a phone booth. The delivery turned out fine. Glen grew up on a dairy that started with 1 cow and eventually grew to a herd of 60 milkers. Glen was in 4H and Future Farmers of America for 4 years. After high school, Glen enlisted in the Air Force for 4 years, 1 of which was in Vietnam. He didn't see any combat but was involved in movie production and special tasks like going for food and supplies. Glen travelled to Taiwan, Australia, Cambodia and more. Discharged in 1970, Glen went to college and double majored in political science and economics. He worked for GC Murphy, a K-Mart subsidiary but left because the amount of travel wasn't to his liking. Glen then took a job in the insurance industry where he specialized in title insurance for 12 years. When the real estate market crashed in the 80's, Glen was laid off. An avid bowler, Glen was offered the manager's position at the Red Carpet Lanes and was given the Green Bay facility a 48 lane alley. Glen left in 1992 for higher salary potential and got a job in title insurance until 2000. Thats when he came to Connecticut always having a desire to live on the east coast. He chose Connecticut by selecting a spot on a map with his eyes closed. With no job and place to live, Glen went to Naugatuck and got a job in title insurance within 24 hours. Real estate crashed again so he needed another job. He met someone who was in the shipping business and now Glen manages the Pak-it shipping store in Old Saybrook. Glen has a dog Zoe and has lots of stories to tell about her.
Glen is a very enthusiastic member of the club known for his ability to obtain support for our the Wine tasting and Golf Tournament fundraisers. He is covering for Bill McLaughlin for Student of the Month and helped organize other programs like RYLA and World Affairs Seminar. We are very fortunate to have him as a member!
