Program: Matt Rubin introduced Lorin Liesenfelt, Founder and CEO of Dog Days
In the US, despite a large number of dog lovers, we are destroying almost 5 million dogs a year or over 10,000 dogs a day. Lauren founded Dog Days to do something to save these orphaned dogs. Composed of community volunteers, Dog Days works with dog rescue organizations to place dogs with owners. Unlike other rescue operations, they have a 10 step process to insure the right dog is placed in the right situation. They hold adoption events about once quarterly when dogs are brought in from around the country. The last one was held Aug 1st and 2nd at the Saybrook Shopping Center. The Red Dog Project was started to address the highest risk dogs in areas where there isn't much chance of adoption. These dogs are housed with inmates to learn basic socialization skills. The program mission is to find perfect forever homes for the dogs while also providing a meaningful experience for the inmate dog handlers. All costs associated with the program are paid by the charity Dog Days Adoption Events, a 501(c)3 organization in Connecticut.
