Program:
Amber Scherber and five high school students representing Westbrook, Old Saybrook, and Lyme/Old Lyme
High Schools gave a powerpoint presentation about the three day RYLA Conference held at Camp Hazen.
This conference is designed to hone the leadership skills of high school students. Over 60 students from across
    the state attended.
Kiwon gave an overview of the program's goals and objectives.
Zach described several personal and meaningful experiences that made a lasting impression on him.
Callie explained the inspirational impact the conference had on her self-confidence.
Keysi described the type of person she was before the conference and what she is now like after the
        conference.
Branden detailed some of the specific activities that affected them the most, They included a RYLA
Challenge for groups to develop ideas to improve their local communities, learning to trust others through
tower climbing and the giant swing activity, a community building exercise revolving around the issue of
prejudice, and learning to lead from the heart not the head.
Glen Anderson spent two days at RYLA and thanked the students for the way they accepted him into
the groups, included him in the activities, and treated him with respect.
It was obvious that RYLA has had a lasting affect on all of these young adults.
