Students of the Month - World Language

Old Saybrook School Superintendant and Rotarian Jan Peruccio called this her favorite meeting of the month because we get to see the students in the flesh. The club does a lot for our youth including college scholarships - our biggest outlay. Students of the Month are chosen by the faculty. Each student receives a $25 check and a donation to the Polio Plus project is made in the students' names.

Victoria Azoulay, from Lyme-Old Lyme HS speaks multiple languages and is globally minded. She is president of the French Club. In a recent competition, she ranked 4th in CT and 8th in the nation.

Leah Cherry, from Westbrook HS is a member of the Civil Air Patrol and is service minded. She is taking UCONN French and loves to learn. Her family recently hosted a student in an exchange program with France.

Eliza Owen Smith from Old Saybrook HS, is the Co-editor-in-chief of the school newspaper. Her grades are impeccable and she is taking French 5 AP. She plans on doing a double major at Vasser in Psychology and Dance.

OTHER BUSINESS:

MEALS ON WHEELS: Drivers are needed, Marty will send out a sign up. Please let Marty know what day(s) you can do. This is an important Rotary function the club has committed to. Ken and Joe took it this week.

DISTRICT DONATION: We will be donating one of the auction items to the district raffle. $100 value GC

WINE TASTING: Marty gave a preliminary report showing a net profit of $13,375 - a success by any measure. Gerri did a great job pulling it all together but it was a team effort. The folks at Saybrook Point Inn did a great job. Marty passed around the spreadsheets showing the income and expenses, and a 5 year comparison.

LUNCH MEETING: This is in process, Raeleen and Kathy are working on this so stay tuned for details on once-a-month lunch meetings.

Five Way Test of the things we think, say, or do
    1) Is it the truth?
    2) Is it fair to all concerned?
    3) Will it build goodwill and better friendships?
    4) Will it be beneficial to all concerned?
    5) Is it fun? (This one is unofficial but we put it in anyway)
