Bob Hester & Jess Wenzel talked about the matching gift request for the water filter project.
Andy read from an article in the Hartford Courant about the Hartford school system and its poor results.
Gerri inducted two new members – Jason Smith of Guilford Savings Bank & Walter Osborne a retired Aerospace Engineer. Jason was sponsored by Gerri, and Walt by Bill Bernhart. John Donnelly and Ass’t. District Governor, Lynn Faulstick welcomed the new members and gave a brief intro to Rotary.
Program:
John Donnelly talked about his trip to Ghana. He described the country as urban sprawl with a very poor health system. The life expectancy is only 57 years. There is also a poor educational system with maybe 75 children in a classroom. John talked about a new private school being built for grades pre K through 9. John and his group brought books and used computers for the school. He suggested that the club might consider a project of collecting and shipping books to Tema in Ghana.
Mike reported that $2100.00 has been received for the Foundation in memory of Jim Sbrolla. Anyone else wanting to donate should get checks to Mike. Thank you letters are going out to all donors and a list of donors will be given to the family.
