Day of Service, Literacy May 16, 2026

We were so prepared and ready for the crowds of kids, families, and anyone else who was going to show up today ! The weather was fantastic, and your presence to share the love of reading in many forms was very present today. Unfortunately, we did not get the numbers we anticipated but for those who attended, the pictures say it all!  The feedback from Maryann and Sheila about those who participated was very inspiring. We can certainly continue on with our literacy project by sharing some of the many books and journals at our summer concerts and distributing items to our churches, synagogues, and other places.
Please continue to send all your feedback from the day so I can put together a list of improvements as we move forward.
Special thanks to all committee members who spent many hours planning, meeting, and putting together today's activities.  We are grateful to SHEILA for her "lesson plans" for today, including the laminated BINGO cards, suggested games and crafts, and so much more.
Shout out to TONY for all his help with coordinating all the efforts at the Valley Shore YMCA. The many emails, flyers, reminders, etc. that he sent out were incredible! Tony had additional staff and volunteers for us. John Aforismo and Cary were there for the set up and tear down at the Town Green (always dependable and reliable!!). Thank you to all our volunteers who  shared this beautiful Saturday morning helping others.
Finally, we cannot forget all the resources to get this project completed: $200 from the Club, $100 from Ocean State, $750 from Connecticut Water, and many allocated books, etc. from The Book Barn in Niantic. We are very grateful!
