Program: Laurie McElwee and Vicki Severin, Prevent-Heal-Thrive

L-R: Vicki Severin and Laurie McElwee of Prevent-Heal-Thrive, Inc.

Laurie McElwee is a cancer survivor. She spoke of her experience starting when she was first diagnosed to her treatment. After several postponements for a mammogram due to COVID-19, she was told there was an abnormality that the doctors wanted to investigate. She had no symptoms. Laurie had stage-4 cancer and needed surgery followed by painful treatments. She is cancer free but mentally and emotionally it took its toll. She credits PHT for helping her get through it.  Today Laurie is South Central Regional Manager. Vicki lost a sister to cancer. She saw her sister's desire to get "normal" and became a certified life coach. She continues her work helping 8-12 people every month. PHT promotes early detection which is key in treating cancer. They provide lifestyle information to prevent cancer. They provide financial support for treatments that may not be covered by insurance. They offer a rehab program for cancer survivors and peer mentorship. PHT raises money through fundraisers, grants and donations. For more information, go to www.PreventHealThrive.org.

Marty talked about the Wine & Beer Tasting and Silent Auction which is April 12. Items are starting to come in and some sponsors have committed. We have a long way to go however. Sell tickets, reach out to businesses for items and sponsors. With full participation, our event will be successful.Sponsors and their ads should be in by April 5 to allow time for the books to be laid out. Check the spreadsheets for donors to see who is calling on them to keep from more than 1 person from soliciting that business.

Nancy talked about the Chamber Chili Fest which is Sat. March 2 from 12 to 3. We will have a presence and will be competing for first prize! Let Nancy know if you can help. We'll be setting up with our tent and serving from 12 to 3. Then we break down. Nancy is heading this up and some good ideas about a recipe were offered. There will be 4 cooks.
