Happy Bucks: Jan was happy for the school budget passing, many for the students, teachers, administrators, and the parents. Several for the great Spring weather, sad bucks for Bob A. and Ken R. Happy Bucks for the Rotary and all it does for the students, for Teacher Appreciation Week, and a very happy buck for the return of Bill McLaughlin!!!!

Superintendent of Schools, Jan Perruccio, explained the Student of the Month Award and then introduced the administrators from each school district.

Westbrook High School: Tech Ed, Enzo Adorno
Teacher, Mr. Pessoni, and Principal, Tara Winch, described Enzo as a student who has demonstrated commitment and persistence throughout his high school career. He designed, built, and raised funds for a particle accelerator. Enzo entered it in the State Science Fair and earned a top ten award.

Westbrook High School: Business, Adriana Stranieri
Teacher, Ms. McManus, and Principal, Tara Winch, described Adriana as highly motivated, hardworking, and funny. She is also a three sport athlete as well as the Captain of those three teams. Her leadership skills extend to the classroom where she is ranked in the top 10% of her class. Adriana has recently completed an internship with a Wealth Management firm.

Lyme/Old Lyme High School: Tech Ed, Andrew Zelek
Teacher, Mr. Goss, and Assistant Principal, Ms. Manfredi, described Andy as a serious, and calm leader who is always willing to help others. He is known for his “ability to learn and get better.” He serves his community as a Fire Department and Ambulance volunteer. Andy is the also the driving force of the E.V. Race Team. For his Senior Project, he started a Tree Work/Removal service. Andy has recently earned his Eagle Scout Badge.

Lyme/Old Lyme High School: Business, Jamie Bucior
Teacher, Ms. Travor, and Assistant Principal, Ms. Manfredi, described Jamie as an enthusiastic leader who has the ability to motivate her peers. She is a member of the NHS as well as an accomplished musician. She is also a member of the volleyball and softball teams. Jamie exemplifies Service Above Self. She will be attending Bentley University in the Fall.

Old Saybrook High School: Tech Ed, Benjamin Rose
Teacher, Ms. Bairos, and Assistant Principal, Mr. Plotkin, described Ben as extremely determined with interests in engineering, diving, Robotics, and for good measure Art. He successfully completed the advanced programming course. He will be studying at Drexel University in the Fall.

Old Saybrook High School: Business, Leigha Fernandes
Leigha was unable to attend. She will receive her award at a later date.

Updates:

  • Rotary Day of Service: 5/20, 9:00am to ?  There is still time to volunteer. Contact Joan W. or Kathy L. if you are willing to serve.
  • Memorial Day Parade: 5/29, Meet at the Stop and Shop Parking lot at 9:30am. Parade steps off at 10:00am. If you don't want to walk, ride in style in Mike Goldblatts antique Cadillac.
  • Summer Concert Series: Volunteers needed to man the booth at 7 concerts. Check the schedule that Nancy M. distributed and let her know when you are available.

May 31st meeting (5th Wednesday): Dinner meeting to be held at Myrcene’s Taproom at 6:00pm. Spouses and guests are welcome.

Changing of the Guard: Will take place on June 28th at the Indiantown Beach House. (6PM)

Dues ($170) are due by June 1st.

Next Meeting: Noon at the VFW. Guest speaker: Dr. ED O’Neil, Work in Uganda
