Happy Bucks: All the Happy Bucks were for the: students, parents, teachers, school administrators, Student of the Month Program, Old Saybrook Rotary Club, and the wonderful day. Mike Rafferty updated the students and parents about the Refugee Resettlement Program in Old Lyme.

Visiting Rotarians: Dick and Joyce Mason from the Clinton Rotary Club.

President’s Update: Nine scholarships, totaling $30,000, were awarded at ceremonies at the three local high schools. Clinton Rotary Club is holding its Rock Around the Clock fundraiser on June 18th.

Program: Student of the Month – Physical Education/Health

 

Jan Perruccio, superintendent of schools, explained the history of the SOM program and introduced the students, administrators, and the teachers from each school.

Westbrook High School: MacKenzie Marshall

Principal, Ms. Winch, and teacher, Mr. McCray described MacKenzie as a “behind the scenes kid” who relates to all students and loves to get involved in all school activities as well as community service. She is known for her determination and ability to focus while always keeping a smile on her face. MacKenzie is an honor student and President of the National Honor Society. She will be attending Southern Connecticut State University and plans to become a pediatric nurse.

Old Saybrook High School: Lily Sigersmith

Principal, Ms. Riffle, and teacher, Ms. Martin, described Lily as a student who does community service out of a genuine concern for her fellow classmates and her community. She is the co-founder and President of the Health Club whose mission is to raise money for local charities. She is also a multi-sport athlete and a member of the National Honor Society. Lily will be attending Emerson College majoring in Communications.

Lyme/Old Lyme High School: Nicolette Hallahan

Assistant Principal, Ms. Manfredi, and teacher, Mr. Cohen, described Nicolette as a leader and a role model even though she is “under the radar”. She is a scholar, an athlete, and one who exemplifies Service above Self. She is a certified EMT and has volunteered countless hours at local hospitals. Nicolette is the winner of the Brent Taylor Scholarship recognizing her community service as well as her academic achievements. She will be attending Perdue University in the Nursing Program.  

Summer Concert Series: Nancy M. updated our sponsorship commitment for the summer months. We will be at six concerts on the Town Green. The first one is 6/15. Others TBD.

Budget Presentation: Gary presented the proposed budgets for the Foundation and the Club. After a period of discussion, Bill M. moved to accept both budgets. Charlie N. seconded the motion. Motion passed unanimously. Jan P. moved to set this year’s dues at $170. Nancy seconded the motion. Motion passed unanimously.

Golf Tournament: Charlie R. reported that the date has been set. October 3rd at Fox Hopyard Golf Club.  Details to follow.

Pat D. encouraged members to return the surveys that he had recently sent out to the membership.
