John Donnelly introduced Christine Garber Program Director Connecticut  Reach Out and Read New England.
Reach Out and Read prepares Americas youngest children to succeed in school by partnering with doctors to prescribe books and to encourage families to read together. 59% of fourth grade students in Connecticut cannot read at the fourth grade level.  New Britian lowest with Old Saybrook among the highest with 94% of our children reading at grade 4 level. Christine explained how The Rotary Club of Old Saybrook could get involved.  SPONSOR A CHILD  $50.00 will support one child for the full five year program  VOLUNTEER IN OUR COMMUNITY  Read to children in doctors waiting rooms and help with book drives.  START A REACH OUT AND READ PROGRAM  Medical providers can apply to the National Center to bring Reach Out and Read to their practice. Pediatric primary care providers have books for the children, displays in the wiating room of information about the program, while volunteers, where possible read to the children.  For addition information go to   www.reachoutandread.org.
