Westbrook -
Bob Hale, principal of Westbrook H.S. presented Sarah Luft who's won the American
Legion Oratorical contest 2 years in a row. She's also editor of the yearbook, plays on
the soccer and tennis team and is working towards the highest award in Girl Scouts.
She also has done community service working on a Habitat for Humanity project down
south. She's applied to many prestigious schools and is waiting results.
Old Saybrook -
Vice Principal Tara Winch and Jean Proctor, building Specialist presented Michaela
Forte (Mea) who received 2 1st place awards last year and who is one of the most
involved and eager students in the school. Her entusiasm also has encouraged many
other students in the school. She claims that since her Freshman year she has made
a 180 degree turn due to the influence and support of her teachers. She also is a playright
and loves drama, leading in the school's production of Fiddler on the Roof. She's
applied to 8 schools.
Old Lyme -
Principal Tony Carrano presented Nicholas Bellas, an all round scholar and 3 letter
man, also captain of 2 of the teams. He scored the winning soccer goal against
Killingworth (much to the delight of Bill McLaughlin). He's now taking 5 AP courses
and has recieved a scholarship from Rensselear. He plans to major in Liberal Arts with
a leaning toward pre-med.
Speaker: Gabrielle Carrajal, who was our World Affairs Council attendee last spring/
summer, spoke on her experinces. She came away with a better understanding of
world issues and enjoyed meeting other students from around the country and the world.
She was very appreciative for the experience. She talked about the workshops she
attended which focused on Sustainability of the worlds resources to help preserve
life as we know it. Some of the topics were on fishing, 'garbage to art' and green living.
The green living theme was evidenced by having to take short showers, lights out early
and using no trays in the cafeteria (to save on water). She also talked about a field
trip to a single stream recycling plant which she found facinating. She'd love to go
again next year, the theme being technology.

THE FOUR-WAY TEST
of the things we think, say or do
First...
Is it the TRUTH ?
Second....
Is it FAIR to all concerned?
Third....
Will it build GOOD WILL and BETTER FRIENDSHIPS?
Fourth....
Will it be BENEFICIAL to all concerned?
