Announcements:
Jess Wenzel gave the financial report of the Wine Tasting followed by Marty. It was a huge success and Marty had a lot of people to thank. They are:
The Wine Tasting Committee: Rich Sullivan, Bill Suits, Bob Antoniac, Peter Manley, Gerri Lewis, Mike Velgouse, Donna Lash and Bill O'Shaughnessy.
Joan Michaud for obtaining the Insurance at no cost to the club
Rotarians who bought tickets even in some cases when they could not attend
Bob Antoniac for getting the Clark Field Banquet Hall at no cost to the club. The facility was just perfect for the event. Bob also worked hard getting the hall ready, getting bottled water and soft drinks (for free) and alot of other things too numerous to mention.
Gail Antoniac for coordinating meeting times at the hall with Bob.
Rotarians who came early and stayed late, people like Brent, Jess, Gerri, Mike and more.
The Band, they worked hard taking only a few short breaks. Despite missing a guitar player, Andrew Seltzer on base and Jon Drobiarz on drums proved to be just fine. They accepted tips from the appreciative audience as payment. That's community service that we all appreciated.
Sharon Tiezzi and the kitchen crew - they kept the food coming all night and many people expressed their compliments..great job!
Bill O'Shaughnessy who got real active in the days leading up to the event getting sponsors, auction items and working to make sure no donors got missed.
Gerri and Bob Chase for donating outstanding items at personal cost. Gerri: full course Filet Mignon dinner at her home and Bob for a luncheon with a day on his boat.
Rich Sullivan for getting the liquor permit- lots of running around
Rotarians who donated auction items and bought table sponsorships
Mike Velgouse for taking care of the auction. It was a tremendous amount of work especially getting down to the wire and you don't appreciate all he did until the night of the wine tasting. He made it come together!
Jess Wenzel who as always takes in the money and provides the accounting.
The Old Saybrook Police who stood guard at the entrance which was very dark and making our event safe and secure.
The Old Saybrook Fire Department for allowing us the use of their great facility at no cost - a great donation!
All who came and helped make it an enjoyable and fincially successful evening!

Peter Manley reminded everyone of the holiday party and that he needs checks for those planning on attending.

Program:
Eileen Daily, a consultant for education of the deaf and a member of the Old Saybrook Board of Education, spoke on her special field of expertise. Both of Eileen's parents were deaf and she learned to sign at a young age. Eileen currently consults with the state department of corrections. Eileen spoke of the plight of young boy in San Salvadore who was born without external auditory hearing anatomy therefore conventional hearing aids are not an option. There is new technology available that connects a microphone to the mastoid bone which he received at age 5. He is now 12 and in need of an upgrade and surgical implantation. The cost is $700 and Eileen would like Rotary to help. The father lives in Clinton and works in Old Saybrook while his son lives in San Salvadore. We suggested that there is probably a club there that we could partner with.
