Announcements:
Brent: Gave a report on the Torchlight Parade thanking members and non-members for helping out. This was our 20th year of serving the marchers hot chocolate and refreshments, an important aspect of the parade. Brent's friend Wells and Marty's son Jon, an Interact member, were there to help. The following Rotarians helped: Brent, Gerri, Andy, Donna, Sam, Bill Burnhart, David Wight and Matt Vogt. We also thank Apple Health (Formerly Saybrook Health Care) for the use of their speed burners and insulated containers used for preparation and transport/serving of the hot chocolate. This year was especially challenging due to the fact that the large tent normally used, was blown down and damaged the night before and the replacement was much smaller in size. Thanks to the vendors for supplying the refreshments. Please go to the section on this website for more information and pictures from past Torchlights: CLUB ACTIVITIES/Torchlight Parade
John Donnelly: Please contact John if you can provide rides for Clement's swim practice which is daily at 2:20. Mondays and Thursdays are all set but help is needed on Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and Fridays.
Discussed American Friends in Kenya, an organization that collects and ships books to Nairobi. John is looking for someone to collect books and prescription bottles (minus the label) in Westbrook and Old Lyme.
John asked if someone could get Clement a birthday present and Donna volunteered.
Keith: Apologized for last weeks missed meeting. There were some mishaps, Matt Vogt took responsibility for not getting the key to the building and backup systems failed.
There will be a meeting of the Board of Directors next Wednesday at the Acton Library at 5:30.
Discussed a request for Safe Grad night and a donation by the club
Read a letter of thanks from Joanne Messner for our Turkey fund donation
Called on Bill Burnhart who gave us a history of the Outreach Committee and past budget vs. money spent. The budget has steadily risen and actual money spent is close to the budget amounts. The need seems to be increasing especially in the area of heating assistance.
Andy: Asked about our investments which led to a discussion of our Foundation and how it grew with a spike from a donation from Ron Czepiel several years ago on his passing. Our Foundation, after taking a hit from the stock market "crash" is coming back to former pre-crash levels.
Treasurers Report: Paul Moore
Paul handed out the latest spreadsheets showing income and expenditures for the club and foundation. Our net income from the Wine Tasting will be just a hair over $8,000 once we receive the credit card reconciliation. $8,500 was transferred from our investment account in January to cover expenditures.
