Upcoming programs:
Wed 2-22-06    Project Amigo (Gift of Life) - Speaker Lynda Hammond, Wed 3-1-06 Goodwin School; Speaker

Sheila Brown followed by a brief business meeting.

Our speaker was Joe Metzendorf and he spoke about the new Village Gateway Building - Status on the new "Welcome to Old Saybrook" town building to be built at the top of Main Street. This will be a 900 sq. ft. building with a meeting room in the basement. Nothing is budgeted by the town. Supplies and much of the labor are from volunteers, therefore scheduling is difficult, and a completion date is a best guess of this year,  maybe in time for summer. The Chamber may move into the building, but that is not final. Joe also noted that Starbucks will be moving into the Cingular building.

Reminder - If you haven't already done so…Pls sign up for your Foundation Sustaining Member Pledge; $101 if you can.

Other business
Brent Taylor - Golf Tournament reminder - May 25, 2006 Mike had an e-mail from Erik Lunde who is traveling in the west. Erik wanted to say hello and let the club know that Elaine’s mother passed away very recently.
Andy reported that Rann King recently had a 4 way by-pass, and is in a Hartford hospital. Send him a card.

Meeting adjourned.

Addendum:  The club received a very nice thank you note from the two Interact kids in response to our donation to help pay for their (Hurricane Katrina) Habitat trip to Foley, AL.

"Rotary Old Saybrook,

On behalf of the students and adults going on the Habitat for Humanity trip, we would like to thank you for your generous donation to our trip.  We leave this Friday (Feb 17), and we cannot wait!  This would not have been made possible without you.  You have never failed to help a cause in need, and we are so grateful.  Thank you so much!

Sincerely,  Kerry Burke & Colleen Huysman"

This is an excellent example of our reward for being Rotarians, folks. Thank you one and all.  Keep up the great work.  And start working on this years Golf fundraiser!!

The Shoreline Soup Kitchens & Pantries has an opening for a Treasurer.  The current volunteer is taking a medical leave and will not return. Many of you are aware of the fine work they do in the surrounding eleven shoreline communities.  They operate eight feeding sites and four pantries.  Over 500,000 meals were provided at these centers in 2005.  This person would serve on the Board of this organization.  There is a paid bookkeeper.  The Treasurer's role is financial oversight and policy.  The person need not be an accountant or financial analyst.  Just someone comfortable with reading financial reports and budgets and doing long range financial planning . He/she would attend board meetings once a month, approximately two hours.  And spend another four to six hours during the month interacting with staff.  If you would like to explore this opportunity or if you know someone outside of Rotary who might be interested and qualified,  please contact Bob Hester.
