GUESTS AS OUR PROGRAM:
Dave Wight intoduced his house guest and freind Karen Padrouso from Brazil.
Karen was a Rotarian in Brazil and is here in this country 'brushing up on her
English" she claims. Her husband is also here on the west coast involved in
graduate studies. Karen will be joining him shortly there.
Gerri Lewis introduced Christina Burnham, a local attorney and chairperson of the
O.S. Police Commission. Christina indicated she is getting away from her usual
practice of law and is focusing on family and personal matters such as mediation,
personal coaching and counceling. She also discussed the current status of the
police station. We apparantly have a very good low rent facility off Spencer Plains
Road, but it is a little too far out. The plan is to tear down the existing facility and
rebuild on that site. This time being sure we prevent another flooding problem.
She also indicated that there was going to have to be some major renovations to
the old police station even before the flooding. Qustions arose as to the costs of
the project. The $5 million figure going around is false. There have been no firm
bids as yet but the estimates they anticipate are in the $10-12 millions dollar range.
They are close to letting the bids out.
