President Joan announced the RYLA students got off OK last weekend. One of the

Dave Wight will host the session. Also on 3/23 there will be a check presentation to
the 3 towns from our Outreach Committee. Student of the month on 3/16 will be
followed by a magic act done by Westbrook principal Bob Hale (looking forward to that!)
On 3/30 there will be a dinner meeting, details to follow soon.
Brent Taylor stated that the Golf Tourney pamphlets will be out soon and that the
golfers pictures taken last year are being mailed out to the golfers. The donor lists
are being reorganized due to the drop in membership and will be handed out soon.
Member Bio: Brent Taylor reluctantly agreed to do the bio and started with his interest
in his families genealogy. He can trace his ancestry back to colonial days, the
Mayflower, and back through the centuries to Charlemagne and loosely to Julius
Caesar's sister. The details and facts were coming so fast your editor was having
difficulty getting everything straight. See Brent if you're interested and he'll be happy
to give you a one on one tutorial.
Brent was born in Mystic in 1941 and has lived in O.S. since 1956. He attended
Valley Regional High School and then Kings Point Maritime Academy. Academic
studies were 3 years at Kings Point and 1 year at sea. Upon graduation he was
commissioned as an officer in the U.S. Naval Reserve, but did his sea duty for 5
years with the merchant marine. During that time he traveled to 55 countries and
circumnavigated the globe. He even went on a kangaroo hunt in Australia with
other crew members which consisted of "jack-lighting" at night (shades of Crocodile
Dundy). He wasn't too proud of that adventure. He also made several runs to
Vietnam while we had our "advisors" there. For the last 2 years he was 1st mate
on his ships, drawing down a $30K salary which for that time was pretty good pay.
After leaving the Merchant Marine he opened a package store in Guilford and
operated that for 7 years. He would host an annual Frog Jumping Contest with
kegs of beer and hot dogs for the crowd. It was apparantly a pretty successful
event but somewhat frowned on by the local police. After he sold the store there
were no more Frog Jumping contests. He then went to New York and studied
the finance industry and returned to CT to join a brokeridge firm where he spent
the next 35 years until his retirement. In closing he also indicated the we have
two other Kings Point graduates in the club, Charlie Norz and Stan Niemerski.
