Where is the town now and where are we going?
Staying to an Economic Agenda, we've been keeping expenses at a growth rate of 0.2 to 0.5 mil per year. The goals have included tying the budget process to performance and upgrading the infrastructure. The Katherine Hepburn Theater for the Performing Arts will help drive Main St. business with an anticipated attendence of 20-25,000 seats sold. Tree plantings and other beautification projects are under way. Starbucks is coming which will draw people to Main St., the new Visitor Center should be open by July. Mike wants Old Saybrook to be a progressive community by staying out of debt, having a plan and keeping it positive. They are always looking for grants from the state and federal government. The new Recreation Center is very popular and the kids are doing a good job of keeping clean and grafitti free. There is a plan in place for Attainable Housing to help people who earn less than is necessary to keep up with housing values. This will help keep our volunteers here in town where they are needed.
