Marty reported on the Website. Its official, after a lot of calls and domain setup fixes, our host is now Web Solutions. They are great to work with. Marty talked about getting the members to update their information in our secure pages.
Golf Tournament: pictures going out next week like every year around Masters time. Time to start getting it rolling.
Program: Our speaker was Peg Morrison, Director of United Cerebral Palsy (UCP) of Eastern Connecticut. Established in 1947, they have grown to 3 locations including one in Old Saybrook at 590 Boston Post Rd and is part of a nationwide organization. The national headquarters is in Wash. DC and they are active lobbying Congress.  As late as the early 70's, public schools weren't required to educate children with disabilities. A mandate in 1992 requires that kids with disabilities be mainstreamed with the phasing out of the large state institutions like Mansfield Training School. Programs are individualized to meet the needs of their clients. Independent living is encouraged whenever possible. CP is a condition that results from lack of oxygen to the brain at birth leaving part of the brain permanently damaged. The strategy to treat this is working to get the rest of the brain to compensate. UCP has a budget of $2 million and receives fees for service through the Dept. of Mental Retardation.
