PROGRAM:
Gerri introduced Linda Hammond, President & CEO of ATP Technologies who
spoke on the District's 3 water projects currently going on. She is a very active
Rotarian from the Hamden club and has been involved with the water projects for
several years. There are 3 type of systems underway right now. One is a rather high
tech, complex system but can supply a small town. Local ownership of the project is
key to making this work. The second is the Bio Sand Filtration system, a small home
style unit that requires little maintenance and no electricity. These type of units have
been in use for years and are very effective. The third type system is being used in
Mexico and can provide a small a school or village. It does require a water source
and electricity but is less complex than the first sytem. It's based on a chlorine tablet,
ultraviolet light system and can supply about 5 fountains and taps. The units cost about
$3500 and the club is considering this for an international project. There was some
discussion today but more to come in the future.
