President's Report:
Outgoing President, Bill O'Shaughnessy gave out his last Service Above Self award to Jess Wenzel.
Bob Antoniac passed around a signup sheet for our Food Booth at the Art Show Saturday July 29 and Sunday July 30. The shifts are 2 hours long beginning at 9am. He also needs help to set up on Friday at 5 at the Town Green. Let's all do our share and help out. So far, only 14 people have signed up and much more is needed.
Bill McLaughlin asked for volunteers to line the green at 9am on Thursday.
Program:
Our speaker was Paul Mohabir, CEO of the Valley Shore YMCA. The Y began in Boston and expanded to New York and beyond. He urged everyone to join - Rotarians receive a 20% discount! The Y helps build the Spirit, Mind and Body and isn't just for recreation. The Y promotes Wellness. There are 3 intiiatives: Diversity, Building Assets and Activating America. Paul raised alarms about our youth and the fact that childhood obesity is a major problem in this country that will cause health issues as they grow older. For the first time, our children's generation will have a shorter lifespan than their parents generation. To combat this trend, the Y has instituted two organization shifts: One for the health seeker (already active) and the other, building internal strength through external partners.
