Program: Rick Beck
Rick started by talking about his military service around the time of the Korean War. Rick did not serve in the conflict because his typing skills put him in a clerk job. When Rick finished his service, he went to work for a company that manufactured embalming chemicals. This industry started around the time of the Civil War in the 1860's. Rick took a job with his family business - a 4th generation business started by his grandfather that distributes supplies for the same industry. Rick started at the bottom and worked his way up the corporate ladder. Today, Rick's son runs the company and it is located in East Lyme and has 13 employees. Prior to their move to East Lyme, the company was located in Stratford. The cost of doing business in Stratford increased dramatically causing the move. Ricks hobbies include boating, fishing and working with his HO scale trains. He has 3 sets running in his basement. Rick enjoys Rotary, his father was a Rotarian in Westport and Rick is a past president in 1963. He served as secretary in the Jupiter, Florida club as well.
