Happy Bucks: All were for the students, parents, teachers, and administrators. Marty D was also happy for the launch of the Annual Wine Tasting Fundraiser.
Program: Student of the Month – Science
Tara Winch reviewed the history of the Student of the Month, its connection to the PolioPlus project, and the increasing role of women in science. She then introduced the students, faculty, and administrators from each school district.
Old Saybrook High School: Michele Sapozhnikov
Assistant Principal, Mr. Plotkin, and teacher, Ms. Shearin, described Michele as a student who is deeply involved in many school activities as well as community programs. Michele is fluent in three languages and has successfully completed several AP Courses, including Physics, which had to be taken as an Independent Study. She is also involved in several clubs including the Fishing Club which was started under her leadership. Michele is currently the Captain of the Tennis Team and is the Treasurer of the school’s Jazz Band. She also finds the time to volunteer at Lawrence Memorial Hospital. Michele’s plans include a major in Biology and a career in healthcare.
Westbrook High School: Stella Blair
Assistant Principal, Ms. Gallagher, and teacher, Ms. Carregal, described Stella as a student who “always has a smile on her face” and is known for her perseverance and her ability to make and keep friends. She is a member of the National Honor Society, SAAD, and is President of the Band. Stella participates in the school musicals and is a valuable member the high school basketball team. During her four years at Westbrook High School, Stella has demonstrated a “genuine love for science” and, not surprisingly, her future plans include becoming a research scientist.
Lyme/Old Lyme High School: Rose Dimmick
Assistant Principal, Mr. Bushnell, and teacher, Mr. Fisler, described Rose as the “student who does everything”. She has successfully completed 12 AP Courses (that must be some kind of a record) and is a member of the Chinese Language Honor Society. Rose demonstrates her leadership skills while being Captain of the Swim Team and the Tennis Team. When in the classroom, her “love of learning” and humble manner combine to produce a quiet but very effective leader. Her work ethic and interest in the world around her, have made Rose a “brilliant scientist”. Good luck in your future studies.

Slate of Officers 2026-27: Vote to be held at the Jan. 28th meeting. You must vote in person! President Pete Zucco; President Elect John Aforismo; Secretary David Condren; Treasurer Mike Millerick; Co-Sgt. of Arms Marty Palmieri and Jan Perruccio.
Outreach: The Club voted to donate $300 to the American Legion of Old Saybrook’s building renovation project.
Centennial Committee: John and Jan will be holding a meeting next week. New members and new ideas are always welcome.
Wine Tasting Fundraiser: April 10, 2026. Marty D handed out all the materials necessary to conduct this most important fundraiser. He explained the procedures, forms, donor lists, tickets, and deadlines. If you have not received the packet, contact Marty. April 10th will be here before you know it!
