President's report:

Gary and President-Elect Pat Devito attended Pre-PETS (President Elect training seminar) which was online. This was the 3rd for Gary and he got something new out of it each time.
Transfer Station Project (Commodities Exchange): Pat Settembrino has been in touch with Larry Bonin who runs the transfer station for the town of Old Saybrook. We are ready to purchase the materials but the project is stalled. Pat Devito suggested we buy the materials so that we can report to district and provide a progress report. Money was provided by the district through a grant that Pat wrote and applied for.
New Member: Elizabeth (Liz) Meyer
On Tuesday night a discussion by a few members and Liz took place. Liz is excited to join and help with our various events and projects in the community. A vote to accept Liz was taken and approved unanimously! Welcome to Old Saybrook Rotary Liz!
Secretary John Giannini will get Liz added to the club roster on the district website. We will have a formal welcome at the next live meeting which is March 9.
Chili-Fest is this Saturday and Rotary will be there! We are a sponsor for this Chamber of Commerce event started years ago when Bill McLaughlin was Chamber president. It is still going strong. Our tent will be located at Porter Plaza and we'll be giving out items and flyers publicizing our Shredding Day event and Wine & Beer Tasting and Silent Auction.

Shredding Event April 9: John Aforismo
This is our 2nd year and is part of the Rotary's Day of Service initiative. District will supply us with a banner and 2 complimentary tee shirts. Pat Devito said district is encouraging uniformity so we may want to purchase additional tee shirts for the day, cost is $6.50 -each. John has taken care of publicity with articles sent to Harbor News, CT Examiner, the town digital signs and lawn signs. Pat suggested online publicity through Saybrook Neighbors on FB.

Wine & Beer Tasting and Silent Auction: Marty
We are doing well with sponsors. Selling tickets and getting auction items is important and its time to make the effort in this area. Gary has been working on getting a temporary liquor permit for the evening. This is a process that involves state and town permit and according to Chief Michael Spera, a permittee must be assigned. He suggested if we can find another way, we should do it. Marty is working with John Lombardo at Saybrook Point, our host for the event to see if there's a way we could fall under their permit. Additional insurance may be required. More on this later.
