Happy Bucks: Devin for the three best school districts in the State, Bill is happy to be back but disappointed in the daily temperature. All the rest of the Happy Bucks were for the students, parents, teachers, administrators, The Rotary, and the Old Saybrook Community.

Student of the Month: Health/P.E. and Business

     Jan Perruccio presented a brief history of the SOM Awards and its link to Rotary International’s Polio Plus initiative. She then introduced the students, their teachers, and school administrators.

     Lyme/Old Lyme High School: Health/P.E.; Foster Richardell

Associate Principal, Ms. Manfredi, and teacher, Mr. Rayder, described Foster as a student with high character and a mentor to his fellow classmates. He is not only on the Tennis Team but was instrumental in the success of the Unified Sports Program. Foster moved here from Colorado this year to help in the support of his grandmother.

     Business: Tyler Wells

Ms. Manfredi and teacher, Ms. Traver, described Tyler as a student who is “under the radar”. He has, however, become a role model for students in all of his classes. Tyler is the “model student” for the entire school. He has joined the summer work crew responsible for painting the areas in the building that need a fresh coat of paint. Tyler will be attending Albertus Magnus College majoring in Finance.

     Old Saybrook High School: Health/P.E.; Amelia Sigersmith

Principal, Mr. Anastasio, and teacher, Ms.Martin, pointed out her outstanding leadership skills and her all-state athlete status. Amelia is the Health Club president. An organization recognized for its ability to raise funds for local charities. She believes it is her role to help others. In fact, to take care of the entire community. Amelia will be attending Quinnipiac University majoring in Business.

     Business: Jonah Lafreniere

Mr. Anastasio and teacher, Ms. Dailey, noted Jonah’s sense of humor and his work ethic as his outstanding qualities. Jonah proved to be a stock market wizard in the business models his class participated in this year.  “He made a lot of money”. Jonah balances his business interests with his love of music. He will be attending Rollins College, in Winter Park, Florida majoring in International Finance.

     Westbrook High School: Health/P.E.; John Dias Heringer

Principal, Ms. Winch, described John as willing to lend a helping hand wherever and whenever needed. He is an outstanding member of the soccer and track teams. His desire to be of service to his community, resulted in his becoming a member of the Connecticut National Guard. John will be attending the University of Connecticut.

          Business: Emily Gomez Salguero

Ms. Winch described Emily as a student who exemplifies “Service Above Self”. She always goes beyond what is asked. Emily is currently the President of the Future Business Leaders of America. She recently participated in an Internship program at the Westbrook Inn which resulted in full time employment.                                                                   

Announcements:

     Next meeting will be on TUESDAY EVENING at the Indiantown Clubhouse at 6pm to 8pm. Special Guests: International Annual Giving Officer, Rebecca Stiber and District Governor Christene Freedman.

     Club Dues are $200 and are due June 5th.

Help needed: opportunities to get involved: Sargeant at Arms, Buying Raffle Items for each meeting, Summer Concert Committee, Peace Committee, Saybrook Street Party Committee 6/23, Chair for Alzheimer’s Walk 9/28, Meals on Wheels, Door Greeter.

     The Scholarship will be interviewing 16 candidates next week. $35,000 will be awarded this year.

Committee Reports:

     Outreach: Approved Donations include: $100 to Old Saybrook Ed. Foundation, Swing into Spring mini-golf tournament. Two $120 Tee sponsorships for the Chamber’s Golf Tournament. $100 SPONSOR FOR THE Chamber’s Car Show.

     Scot Haney and Nicole Nalepa have served as Masters of Ceremonies of our Wine Tasting Event for two years. In recognition of their giving spirit, the Club will make a donation of $500 to the charity of each one’s choice. Thank you Scot and Nicole!
