Happy Bucks: For the warm weather, friends, getting on the water!, Sox and Mets haha, birds singing in the morning, free dinner at Alforno's (who paid?), nice day of golf at Fenwick, article in Harbor News - Jan P is Person of the Week!

Jan exercised executive privilege and changed the order of the agenda. We'll be discussing the budget but first Jan announced that the club Paul Harris Committee has selected 3 people to receive Paul Harris Fellowship Awards. They are Nancy Morin, John Aforismo and Joan Winters. Nancy served as President and achieved a lot but it didn't stop there. She continues to work at the district level as Rotary District 7980 Area 10 Assistant Governor. John was the initiator of our Macaroni Dinner and Shredding Event - both very popular in the community and both important fundraising activites. Joan has taken on leadership of the Epic Day of Service and works extremely hard on other activities such as the Wine Tasting, leading our public relations by posting to social media and print media, working on new members entry into our club and much more. Each of these Rotarians have gone above and beyond in their contributions to the club's mission and activities. Each said a few words at the meeting. John tells people that he loves the idea of raising money and giving it away but Joan said it best when she said they don't do what they do for awards and recognition - they truly want to help people and Rotary provides the vehicle to do just that!

Day of Service, Saturday May 16 (link)
Joan Winters reported this is just a week away. Signs are ready to go out (not too soon). Baskets have been prepared and supplies procured. Click the link for more information.

Memorial Day Parade (link)
Marty has been organizing the club to march in the Memorial Day Parade for many years. We want to have a good presence so people are asked to sign up and at the meeting, 7 people did so. An email will go out to increase our count. Marty's Brother-In-Law, Mike Goldblatt, will bring a vintage car probably his "56 Cadillac, to do the route with us. Riding in the car is an option - let Marty know if you want to ride and get a space reserved. Click the link above for more information.

The Club Budget
President Jan Perruccio went over the new budget. Due to cost increases from district, an increase in dues is anticipated. There was no increase from the club itself. The new amount for dues is $240 vs. $225. This is not out of line with other clubs. A discussion followed with some members expressing concern about the increase. Nancy stated that district does its best to hold costs but increases are happening that are out of their control. Things like insurance, Rotary Magazine, international increases, PELS (President Elect Training Seminars) have increased. After discussion the budget was voted on and unanimously approved.

Shredding Day
John Aforismo reported that our income after expenses was $4,226.50 - a new high for this event. The next Shredding Day is planned for Sept. 26.

Macaroni Dinner (link)
John announced the date of Oct. 17 and 18 for the Macaroni Dinner at Clark (aka Fireman's) Field.

Area 10 Five-Club Social (link)
Nancy is coordinating this gathering which takes place May 14 at Scotch Plains Tavern in Essex. Its a meeting of area club members to Connect, Share, Recognize and Celebrate. So far, over 30 people are signed up and Old Saybrook will have a contingent. Its a night of fun, fellowship and getting to know other Rotarians in our area and what the other clubs are doing - Ducky Derby, Mental Health Day, to name a couple. Let Pete Zucco know if you'd like to attend which is highly encouraged. Click the link above for more information.

Chip Adams suggested an E-Kayak as a possible raffle item. Last year, we had a raffle for an E-Bike and it did very well.
