Happy Bucks: In addition to many Happy Bucks for the students, parents, teachers, administrators, and summer vacation, Gary was happy for two graduating grandkids and celebrating his 55th wedding anniversary, Jan was happy to announce her son’s engagement, and Marty was happy for his trip to France.

     Tara Winch provided a history of the Student of the Month Award and its connection to the Rotary International Polio Plus Program. Which has, over the last 45 years, help eradicate 99% of Polio cases worldwide. She then introduced the students, teachers, and administrators from each of the school districts.

                                  Health/PE; Lyme/Old Lyme High School: Ryan Orteleva

Assistant Principal, Mr. Bushnell, and teacher, Mr. Cohen described Ryan as a student with high character, high energy, and high involvement with the school and the community. Ryan is a natural leader who not only leads by example but also vocally. He is a “real go getter” who is always eager to contribute time and effort whenever needed. His Track and Cross Country experiences have resulted in his passion for fitness. Ryan will be attending Springfield College majoring in Physical Therapy. 

                                Health/PE; Old Saybrook High School: Madeline Gutzimer

Assistant Principal, Mr. Plotkin, and teacher, Ms. Westner, indicated it was a “no brainer” selecting Madeline as the Student of the Month. In addition to being an honor student, she exemplifies the Rotary’s Motto – Service of Above Self. Her many and varied activities include: the Gray Matter Project, organizing school wide Blood Drives, participating in the Goodwin Buddies Program where she is mentoring young students, the Special Olympics Program as well as the Unified Sports Program and she is a vital member of the Softball Team. Madeline will be attending Quinnipiac University majoring in Nursing.

                                   Health/PE; Westbrook High School: Alexandra Bransfield

Principal, Mr. Talmadge, noted that he and Alexandra are “Birthday Buddies” and have been celebrating their birthdays since Alexandra was in junior high. He describes her as a quiet leader who can get “the workers working”. Teacher, Ms. Bancroft, describes her as “the total vibe”. She also noted Alexandra’s superior critical thinking ability in addition to her superb study skills. Alexandra will be attending the University of Connecticut majoring in Business.

                                    Fine Arts; Lyme/Old Lyme High School: Marleigh Piacenza

Assistant Principal, Mr. Bushnell, and teacher, Mr. Allik, described Marleigh as “wildly talented”. She can always be found drawing. She is a very hard working student and her love for and interest in art is unmatched. Her talent has earned her many Shoreline Art Awards and recently her drawings placed first in a 24 town competition. Mr. Allik emphasized Marleigh’s huge potential and wished her good luck with her career in Art. She will be majoring in Art in her college studies.

                                    Fine Arts; Old Saybrook High School: Mikayla Pace

Assistant Principal, Mr. P;otkin, and teacher, Mr. Taylor, recognized Mikayla’s amazing on stage performances which were so creative that it raised the bar for the entire department. She is eager to help other students while contributing her talents to the overall success of the musical productions. Mikayla is an A.P. student while serving as the editor of Musings, the school Literary Magazine, and Vice President of the Drama Club. She will be attending Emerson College majoring in Art/Performing Arts.

Scholarships: 11 scholarships will be awarded at Senior Awards Nights to be held on 6/4, 6/10, and 6/11.

Dues: $240 payable in June.

Summer Concerts on the Green: Sign up. The first one will be on 6/10 at 6:00 (set up). Coast Guard Band.                                          

Next Meeting: 7:30 am at the Estuary. Business Meeting
