OS Rotary Meeting 06/22/26

Pledge, Prayer and 4-Way Test: Bill McLaughlin
Bill said a few words about the origin of the Four Way Test which was created at the time of the depression in 1929. Following that, Bill had everyone rise and together we all recited:

  1. Is it the TRUTH?
  2. Is it FAIR to all concerned?
  3. Will it build GOODWILL and BETTER FRIENDSHIPS?
  4. Will it be BENEFICIAL to all concerned?

President Jan Perruccio took to the podium and began her remarks by thanking District Governor Stephanie D. Philips and former DG Robert Friend for attending tonight. Jan's experience was amazing - goals were set and accomplished thanks to the talent that makes up the club. Everyone gave of their time, talent and treasure to get things done without expecting recognition. We are a group of doers and planners dedicated to doing good and promoting those ideals that Rotary stands for. For example, we collected half a ton of food for the pantries and kitchens that serve the food insecure - one of Jan's initiatives. We proudly display our Peace Pole along with the banner which sends an important message that we stand for world peace. Jan thanked everyone for allowing her to lead the club.
Incoming President Pete Zucco added that people are very appreciative for what we do telling a story of a local health care official who thanked us for providing new coats to those in need. There is no hierarchy in Rotary - we are all equals!

Gary McCauley took to the podium for the Paul Harris Awards portion of the meeting. After giving a brief history of Rotary founder Paul Harris and the Paul Harris award, Gary asked the previous recipients in attendance to rise and be recognized. Our new recipients tonight were: Joan Winters, Nancy Morin and John Aforismo. They have led the way in many club endeavors and have helped build a special place for Rotary in the communities of Old Saybrook, Westbrook and Old Lyme. Marty Drobiarz was given the honor of presenting Proclamations from the State of Connecticut obtained by Rotarian and State Legislator Devin Carney. The Proclamation was signed by President Pro Tempore Martin Looney, House Speaker Matt Ritter, and Stephanie Thomas, Secretary of State and acknowledges their special efforts on this day. With each Paul Harris Award, $1,000 is sent to the district which eventually comes back as grants for our community service projects. Joan, Nancy and John made brief comments following presentation of awards. They truly exemplify Service Above Self!

President Jan Perruccio gave out Distinguished Service awards for dedication and service above and beyond. The recipents were: Martin Palmieri, Mary Polchaninoff, Dave Condren, Rosanne Farrell, Marty D, Charlie Renshaw, Tara Winch, and Kathy Callinan.

Pete Zucco then presented Jan with a plaque commemorating her year as President. Goals were established and achieved - well done and congratulations on a fine year Jan! Next, John Aforismo presented Jan with her own bobblehead doll!
