THE FOUR WAY TEST of the things we think, say, or do.
1)     Is it the TRUTH?
2)     Is it FAIR to all concerned?
3)     Will it build GOODWILL and BETTER FRIENDSHIPS?
4)     Will it be BENEFICIAL to all concerned?

PROGRAM
Amtrak Connecticut River Bridge Project a O&G/Tutor/Perini Joint venture. O&G personnel, Paul D’Amore, Liam Norton, Dan P. Butler made the presentation.

The present railroad bridge was built by The Scherzer Rolling Bridge Company of Chicago, in 1907. It is the busiest passenger rail corridor in the US.

The age of the present bridge requires extremely high maintenance, reduces speed of the trains, and is simply worn out. Speeds will improve to 70 mph from current 45 mph and the new bridge will have an expected life of 100 years. More than 50 trains per day travel the Boston to New York route.

The new bridge is a $1.3 billion project. Work began in 2024 with a completion date of 2031. Train traffic may move across the bridge by 2030, while the removal of the present bridge may take another year.

Laydown yards and preassembly sites will be built off Ragged Road in Old Saybrook and at 17 Shore Road in Old Lyme. Environmental mitigation included 3.5 acres at 17 Shore Road in Old Lyme and another 3.25 acres in Old Saybrook for threatened bird habitats.

The fishing pier has been removed and reconstructed, temporarily, in Haddam CT. The pier will be rebuilt in Old Lyme once the new bridge is operating.

Extensive site restoration along Ragged Rock Road in Old Saybrook and 17 Shore Road in Old Lyme is part of the project requirements.
