Guest Speaker

State Senator Norm Needlemen, Deputy President Pro Tempore, Chair of the Energy Committee, Vice Chair Planning and Development, Member Commerce, Finance, Revenue and Bonding; Transportation.  Senator Needleman was elected to Represent the 33rd District of Connecticut in 2018. Norm has been First Selectman of Essex since 2011. Norm founded Tower Labs in 1979 and now has 300+ employees in three locations, two in Essex and 1 in Michigan, Norm lives in Essex.

As Senate Chair of the Energy Commission, he supports moving forward with zero carbon footprint without breaking the bank. Spoke to the coming of a wind farm off the coast of New London, along with improved battery storage capabilities. He is not opposed to nuclear power generation.

State of Connecticut’s new budgets looks good, No increase in taxes. Connecticut’s share of the new Federal funds is 4 billion dollars. Advice to business’s advocate for the new funds.

Role of government: listen, free enterprise needs guidance, government cannot solve all problems, government must exercise fiscal responsibility, lead by example.

  5. A paving stone at “The Kate” seems like a good idea.
  6. Think Mac Dinner!!!
  7. Question should we use stipe?
  8. Should we run a raffle at the dinner?
