Guest Speaker – Richard Campbell from Warm the Children
Warm the Children, founded in Torrington, CT in 1988, is a family of 27 non-profit organizations that share the same mission: to provide new winter clothing and footware for their community’s neediest children.

Richard Campbell, coordinator for the Connecticut River Valley and Shoreline Towns, explained how the system works in Old Saybrook. Youth and Family Services provides a list of eligible families to the coordinator who assigns a volunteer “shopper” to each family. The Shopper contacts the family and sets a time and date for the shopping to occur. The Shopper and family member will meet at the Walmart in Old Saybrook. Depending on age, each child is allowed up to $100 to spend on winter clothing. The Shopper accompanies the family member through the checkout process and signs the purchase order form. Last year, 400 children from the Connecticut Valley and Shoreline Towns benefited from this program. Visit the Warm the Children website for more information.

Volunteer Shoppers are needed for this year. If you are interested in becoming a Shopper, contact Dick Campbell at 860-304-8267.

Maui Relief Fundraiser – Nancy reported that so far $5000 has been donated. An effort will be made to involve students in the fundraising. The campaign will run through October. The Maui Relief Committee will now be known as The Disaster Relief Committee and will take on a larger role in the future.

Arts & Crafts Festival 9/30-10/1: Volunteers are still needed. Nancy will be emailing a signup sheet to each member this week.

Alzheimer Walk will be on 9/23. See Susan to walk or donate.

Macaroni Dinner on 10/15: John reported that 75 tickets have been sold. Posters will be going up this week, banners to follow, electronic signs by 10/2.
