THE FOUR WAY TEST of the things we think, say, or do.
1) Is it the TRUTH?
Is it FAIR to all concerned?
Will it build GOODWILL and BETTER FRIENDSHIPS?
Will it be BENEFICIAL to all concerned?

PROGRAM: Alan Ringen, First Church of Christ Old Saybrook; Our Community Cupboard
First Church has been active in working with The Shoreline Soup Kitchen. The First Church’s heat and eat program provides several hundred hot meal entrees each week to the Kitchen. The Rotary Club of Old Saybrook has put together two District Managed Grants to assist the heat and eat program. One grant helped purchase a new oven, and the other grant a new dishwasher.
The new effort by First church is to provide a source of food for the needy 24 hours a day, 7 days a week via a Mutual Aid Community Cupboard. Presently this is a covered large box behind the Church. The sign on the container reads, “Take What You Need, Leave What You Can”. To date, The Mutual Aid Community Cupboard has facilitated the distribution of over 1,500 lbs. of food and household essentials. Their goal is to raise $15,000 to install a dedicated storage shed equipped with a refrigerator and freezer. This investment will allow the “Community Mutual Aid Cupboard” to:
· - Provide fresh produce, dairy products, and frozen foods, alongside stable shelf items
- Safely accept larger donations from local business and community partners
- Reduce food waste through proper storage and preservation
- Increase the quantity and variety of food availability to residents
The goal is to raise $15,000. Presently, “Our Community Cupboard,” has received a $4,000 grant and are working on obtaining a Community Foundation Grant. Alan asked that we consider helping with the project.
