Happy Bucks: Most were for the students, parents, teachers, and administrators. Some were for the beautiful day. Several were for the Rotary Club. Ralph was happy for the meatballs at the Macaroni Dinner. Devin was happy for the three best school systems in the State.

Program: Student of the Month – English

Superintendent of Schools, Jan Perruccio, explained the process of the Student of the Month Award and introduced the students, teachers, and the administrators from each school district.

Westbrook High School: Emma Bransfield
Principal Ms. Winch, and Teacher, Mr. O’Connor-Hall, described Emma as an amazing leader. She is respected by the faculty as well as her fellow classmates. In the classroom, Emma is noted for her creative thinking and her ability to raise the level of class discussions. Emma plans to enroll in a Nursing Program next Fall.

Old Saybrook High School: Kaitlyn Kidd
Assistant Principal, Mr. Plotkin, and Teacher, Mr. Vautrain, described Kaitlyn as one that excels in all of her courses. She is also involved in music and drama as well as serving as editor of the school newspaper. “Her fingerprints are all over the English Department”. Kaitlyn volunteers at the middle school in addition to holding down a part time job. She plans on attending college majoring Biology.

Lyme/Old Lyme High School: Agatha Hunt
Assistant Principal, Ms. Manfredi, and Teacher, Ms. Baklik, described Agatha one that exemplifies “Wildcat beliefs and value”. She has received numerous academic awards and excels on the athletic fields. She is a member of the NHS and is described as “silent leader”. In the classroom, she challenges her peers exhibiting her drive and determination. Her secret talent is creative writing. Agatha plans on pursuing a major in Anthropology.

Announcements and Reports:

  • Maui Fund – Nancy announced that the $10,000 goal should be reached by the end of the month. The school systems are now becoming involved.
  • Macaroni Dinner – John reported the ticket sales are over 400. This exceeds last year’s event. Everything is ready for a successful dinner. 10/15/23 noon to 4:00pm, Be There!
  • Old Lyme Inn Event – Joan W. expects 30 members and guests to attend the Happy Hour on 10/12 from 4:30pm to 6:00pm. This is a great opportunity to meet and greet prospective members from “over the bridge”.
  • Reminder: District Foundation Meeting is being held November 5th at Saybrook Point Resort.
  • Marty and Gary will be organizing a group to participate in the Torchlight Parade in the coming weeks. Save the date: December 9th at 6:00pm. Our 35th Year of hosting the tent!
  • The Club voted to make a $500 donation to the VFW for our home away from home.
  • The Club voted to make a $1,000 donation to Bikes for Kids. This will help fund the Polar Express experience for kids at the Essex Steam Train in November.
  • Joan Winters reported that 5 possible new members are waiting in the wings.
