  • Westbrook Grant: We applied for and was approved for $1600 to be used for Thanksgiving meals supplied by Edd's Place Nov. 24. Normally, the club would match 25% but the board waived that and will provide 100% of the funds.
  • The Interact Club is getting ready for their 5K run in early December (11th?). Amber will request support from Rotary which we will do as we have in the past.
  • Pat Devito's radio interview is available, look for the link
  • Meals on Wheels: Brent needs help Friday, Laurie from the Estuary asked us take that day to deliver meals. Normally we do Wed and Thu.
  • H.E.A.T., a fund which provides money for heating for those in need, is fully funded at this time and won't be needing support from us at this time.
  • Next week we will present a check to the Estuary Council of Senior Citizens for a "Bench" sponsorship ($2,000) which is part of their outdoors park initiative.
  • Golf Tournament update: Charlie Renshaw cannot give a final report because we have not yet been billed by Fox Hopyard. John Jackson will email the bill at some point.
  • Transfer Station Project (Commodities Exchange): Pat Settembrino reports that the project is still on hold as we await decisions from the town. Funding is all set.
  • Wine Tasting: Marty reports that new posters and flyers are done but not yet printed, tickets are at the printers. Expect a packet of WT2022 material. Marty urges everyone to get involved in this fundraiser. Pattie Devito will be coordinating this so please forward contact information to her for the purpose of creating a database of donors. Mark Patterson will be looking for new sponsors as well as soliciting past sponsors. Think about items for the silent auction and raffle.
  • Website: Marty reports the website is working well. We'll be using our website to sell tickets for the Wine Tasting. Pete Zucco is in charge of publicity and is working on the interface with EventGroove.
  • Membership: Pete Zucco reports we have 2 new members joining Rotary!
  • Final accounting for the Macaroni Dinner: John Aforismo reports that after all the income and expenses are tallied, we netted $3,275!

Pete Zucco proposed Gail Fahey, a frequent guest and participant in club functions, for membership. She was roundly approved! Gail has a history of volunteer work. She is a retired special education teacher. Gail will be inducted at the next meeting.

Program: Nathan Wise, "Ruddigore" Performance

You probably didn't know this but Nathan is an actor. And he can sing! He came to the meeting in dress as a pirate and talked about the show, "Ruddigore" also known as "The Witches Curse", a collaboration between Gilbert & Sullivan. Nathan talked about this famous duo who composed many musicals. They were an unlikely couple - Sullivan the classical composer and Gilbert, a barrister (attorney) who wrote comic plays. They, along with Richard Cart established the famous Savoy Theater, the first theater with electrical lighting. Together, they produced 14 operas, 9 of which are still performed today. Nathan sang a song from the play called "Pirate King" doing an admirable job! The play runs this weekend at the Valley Regional High School in Deep River Saturday, Nov. 6 at 2:00PM & 7:30 PM, and Sunday Nov. 7 at 2:00PM.

Next meeting, Wed 11/10/21: Student of the Month (Mathematics), 7AM at Saybrook Point Resort & Marina
