Program:  Pete Corbett introduced his friend and speaker Dave Moore.
Dave's program was on antique firearms, primarily pistols.  He is an avid collector, as well
as an accomplished ocean sailing enthusiast and sailor, an art student and painter and a
scratch golfer (he's your editor's golf partner).  Dave brought along about 15 guns and a
poster he used at the the recent Hartford Gun Show.  Most of his collection dates from the
17th to the 19th century.  He indicated that the guns he brought with him were worth about
$100K.  During the 18th century the dutch were the major producer of arms.  He showed one
piece that had the inscription around the front of the barrell that said "Lucky is he who
escapes me".   Italy was the major producer of arms in the 17th century.  France invented the
flintlock and it was in use for about 300 years.  Although very imposing, his guns being only
single shot meant that there was more hand to hand combat than actual gun shot wounds.
He did show one 2 shot pistol.  Dave's collection is mostly decorative, belonging to officers
and high officials.  The rank and file had far less decorative arms.
