Program:
Cathy Forsberg of the Hamden Rotary Club and her husband Mike Lipman talked about a Bio Sand Water Filter program they have started, with a grant from the Hamden club, for needy towns and families in South Asia, including India. Three clubs in our district have already adopted ($2,200.00) towns in India - North Haven, Hamden and New London. Mike visited India and saw that it was "thirsty", dry and lacking in good water. He saw the need and looked for a solution. That's when South Asia Pure Water Initiative, Inc. was formed. The filters are built on a small scale at a cost of $25 and sold to needy families for $15 (earnings of about 5.45 days of work).
Peter presented guest speaker certificates and a coffee mug to Cathy & Mike and adjourned the meeting at 8am.
