   - Marty reported on the results of the Wine Tasting and Silent Auction Fundraiser held Feb. 10 at the Saybrook Point Inn. Marty passed around a folder that contained financial information (income statement compared to our last one in Nov. 2010) printed material distributed and about 50 pictures taken at the event. The results were a great success! After expenses, we will clear about $12K which is about a $3K increase from our last event. The club came together and sold tickets, got great items for our auction and raffle and helped make it a very special evening. The staff at the Saybrook Point Inn did a great job. Marty especially recognized Gerri Lewis who worked tirelessly organizing the auction and leading the preparation of the ballroom which looked wonderful and festive. It was agreed by everyone that this is a better time to hold the Wine Tasting and we will request the same time frame again next year.

Heather Gagnon:
Heather is one of our newest members and she already loves Rotary and what the club does! Heather has 3 children and lives in Old Lyme. She is the Branch Manager at Guilford Savings Bank in Old Saybrook. Heather was born in Scotland and moved to the US at the age of 3. Heather learned classical piano at an early age, her father owning a piano store in Groton. After selling everything her family moved to California when she was in 7th grade. School was done at home through correspondence courses. Her years in California were rebellious and free spirited. Heather became an avid surfer. She volunteered as a candy striper in a nursing home and received her CNA (Cert. Nurses Aid). Heather loved doing volunteer work and helping others. A New Englander at heart, Heather returned to Connecticut as a junior in high school, graduated, then put herself through college. She landed a job at Foxwoods working in the "cage" where the money is received and chips counted. There she learned the casino business and at age 28 was doing very well financially. She grew weary of the constant party atmosphere and decided to make a change going to work for the company Defender in customer service. From there she worked at a federal credit union, her first exposure to banking. Heather enjoyed counseling customers on finances, working with people and learning accounting. Heather's husband was getting into real estate and encouraged her to join him which she did, getting her license and leaving the credit union to sell real estate full time. When the market faltered, she decided to get off the "roller coaster" and go into something more stable and took a position at Pfizer for 2 years. Not happy with the corporate culture, Heather took a job as an Assistant Branch Manager and is now the Branch Manager. She has just received her certification and is looking forward to future opportunities at GSB.

First...
    Is it the TRUTH ?
Second....
Is it FAIR to all concerned?
Third....
Will it build GOOD WILL and BETTER FRIENDSHIPS?
Fourth....
Will it be BENEFICIAL to all concerned?
