Bill Suits and Andy Anderson did the honors as we inducted our newest member, Mathew Rubin. Ron Scott noted that our most senior member, Andy (in Rotary 49 years) had just conferred membership to our newest member. Next year Andy celebrates 50 years in Rotary..wow! now thats dedication!
Our speaker was John Mitchell, author of 5 books and contributor to National Geographic Magazine. A journalist for over 50 years, John gave an interesting and thought-provoking talk about the environment and people's perceptions on the issue. Most people aren't concerned about the damage we are doing. John talked about the ravages of coal mining in West Virginia where whole mountains have been decapitated to get at the coal. The Bush administration has a very poor record on the environment in terms of legislation promoted and environment protection laws that have been done away with to help industry. Global warming is real, all the signs are there.
It was a fun evening, meal was great!
