Ron Scott talked about RYLA, the World Affairs Seminar at Whitewater and Scholarships. In attendance were the following students: Art Linares and Andrew Wilson of Westbrook HS, Mike Terreri and Patrick Murphy of Old Saybrook HS. Art, Mike and Patrick attended the recent RYLA (Rotary Youth Leadership Awards) Program and they talked about the experience and thanked the club for sending them. They met many people and got a new perspective on things. This year we sent 4 students at a cost of $225 per student.
Patrick and Andrew will be attending the upcoming World Affairs Seminar in Whitewater, Wisconsin (Bill was quick to point that out) for a week. Among other things, they will be presented with a problem by someone from a foreign country and the students will break up into groups to come up with a solution. The cost of sending 3 students with airfare is about $2200.
Each year the OS Rotary Club awards 2 scholarships: a $1500 per year, 4 year award and a $1000 per year, 2 year award for each of the three schools Old Saybrook, Old Lyme and Westbrook. Students must meet the following criteria:
    Academic Ability
Leadership Abilities in school and community

Resourcefulness by working during the summers, weekends or during vacations to help meet anticipated expenses
    the need for financial assistance
